Ballroom Dance Costumes and Ballroom Dancewear

Ballroom Dance Clothes - Getting dressed for a night on the ballroom dance floor is so much different than getting dressed for an evening out at the club. With ballroom dancing emerging as a popular American pastime, the dress code is also constantly growing and changing. We've seen various styles of ballroom dance costumes and ballroom dancewear on television, thanks to the recent media interest in covering this activity. However, there are various differences in ballroom dress styles depending on the country that you live.

American ballroom dance clothes are usually easy to distinguish from other nationalities. A primary trait of American dresses is that they "flow" much better than those from other countries. For instance, a ballroom dance costumes usually has two layers of skirt, along with other cuts of fabric flowing from the neck and back up again. In contrast, international ballroom dancewear are known for their heavier fabrics and feathers. Several American styles also are decorated with feathers, but are not the essential accent of the ballroom dress. Most international ballroom gowns are designed to show from one angle - either they look appealing from the back or front, but not both as a rule.

You're will most likely find that ballroom dance costumes are accented with sequins or jewels, and come in various lengths. Most ballroom dancewear does not extend down to the floor - this is possibly because a long dress can become tangled in the dancing feet and lead to a disaster. Ouch! However, the style of ballroom dance clothes will largely depend on the type of dance being performed. For instance, the paso doble is all the rage ballroom dance that includes Spanish culture in its steps. It makes sense that the dress would be representitive of the theme; this particular dress would possibly have sleeves, a ruffled mid length skirt that twirls easily, and would be decorated with lace.

For more contemporary ballroom dances, the dress is more commonly very lightweight and flows well with the dancer. A popular style for the top of the dress is either halter-style or sleeves that hang from the shoulder. Strapless-style ballroom dancewear is not very common in ballroom dancing, probably because of the risk of it falling off during a rapid-paced dance or a misfit while moving about on the dance floor.

Ballroom dance costumes come in a various colors and there are not usually any limits in this respect. It is common American custom for a women to match her partner when choosing the color of their ballroom dress. However, the color can be anything the couple chooses, but the shoes will need to match the dress exactly.

There are so many options for locating a ballroom dress to match your desires. Most women choose to have their ballroom dance clothes tailor made, especially if it is for a competition. This can get expensive, so there are a few other options. The internet is a great tool for finding everything you need in a ballroom dance costumes and ballroom dancewear. Although you can't physically try it on, most online retailers will allow you to submit your exact measurements and have a good return policy.
