Austin Brown: dynamic depths of a superstar in the making
Rising musician Austin Brown is a new soul/R&B/electro artist hitting the music scene. Signed to his own record label, The Royal Factory, Brown said he’s following the Indie label route to release music that represents the sounds he loves. So, who is this new artist and what’s his game plan?
For starters, he’s not the average “run of the mill,” music video artist. Through action-packed dancing, futuristic fantasy and vivid color schemes, Brown released the styles of his upcoming album 85 in a four-and-a-half minute album trailer, directed by Tom DeSanto, (producer of “X-Men” and “Transformers”). The exciting kick was that he premiered his trailer at the May 14 KIIS FM event, Wango Tango – one of today’s largest music events.
The trailer contains a variety of upbeat dance grooves, smooth harmonies and vocals by Brown – including snippets of the dance-flavored songs “Target Practice,” “Dance Off” and “Midnight Man.”
Though May 14 was his musical launching day, his career is just beginning and is sure to excite listeners along the way. In July, he will be appearing on George Lopez’s show “Lopez Tonight,” and in August, he’s set to release his self-titled EP Austin Brown. Plus, appearances are continuously popping up.
But, who is Brown musically? The title “R&B singer” doesn’t do him justice. This is proven in his song “All I Need” – a song he premiered a snippet of May 6, on KIIS FM’s “Weekend Mixtape,” and a full version, May 15, on DJ Skee’s live music radio show. In a little less than 3 minutes, Brown fills the song with classic soul and new-age falsetto harmonies, brining back a Motown zest. His falsetto abilities are unique in today’s music realm, yet reminiscent of Bobby and El DeBarge.
In addition to vocal and dancing strengths, Brown is hands-on in all aspects of his career. Through songwriting, he’s working with top-notch writers and producers, including Walter Afanasieff, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, LaShawn Daniels and Thomas Lumkins, a.k.a., “Tommy Parker.” Musically, he expresses his sound in multiple instruments, such as bass, guitar, piano and drums. For his upcoming release, Brown’s collaborating on a song with OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, and recently began working with the rapper Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest, who Brown said is one of his musical mentors.
With dominant flair and a love for high-quality music, Brown’s sure to find a lasting home in the music industry.
