The Viennese Waltz and the Quick Step - Ballroom Dancing Orlando

The Viennese Waltz originated from the Austrian Landler and is an graceful quick paced, whirling dance, the partners embrace each other as if in a romantic hold. This caused many raised eyebrows of conservative society. The standard waltz, as with the Viennese Waltz has a greater popularity that can at least in part be caused by Vienna's famous ballrooms and the music of Johann Strauss. Also like the standard waltz the music may be vocal or instrumental and can be country, classical or even rock when Ballroom Dancing Orlando, New York, Chicago or anywhere else.

The Viennese Waltz is a quicker paced dance than the regular waltz which makes it rather more of a challenge. As with the standard waltz the Viennese Waltz involves simple, swinging movements and elegant rotation, although there should not be any foot rise on the inner turns. The Viennese Waltz will also require a high level of stamina, the same required that would be needed to dance a polka.

The Viennese Waltz employs a right turn (natural turn), a left turn (reverse turn) and 2 change steps that connect the moves in between the turns. Dancing the line of dance (direction of traffic - turning left at the corners of the dance floor) and rotating in a clockwise direction is the Natural Turn. Following after the line of dance and rotating in a counter-clockwise direction is the Reverse Turn. The step links (change steps) will allow you to alter directions while still following the line of dance.

The step links are really 2 standard steps down the line of dance following with a 3rd step sliding the moving foot to the standing foot. By performing a string of change figures you can work your way through the tight spots on a crowded dance floor then resume the rotation. The "sway" is simply leaning slightly in the opposite direction of the line of dance movement.

The Quick Step - Ballroom Dancing Orlando

The Quick Step: The Black Bottom, the Charleston, the Shimmy and probably a few other dances all combined into a quicker version of the Fox Trot, which became known as the Quick Step in 1923. The development of the Quick Step was completed with a dance that uses a lot of hops, movement, runs, rotation and Quick Steps. It is a very quick, lively dance that was evolved with seriously, fast paced jazz music from the ragtime era.

The Quick Step is a happy, fast, lighthearted dance, and you will find that the footwork can be a little difficult using a slow, quick, quick, slow, quick, quick tempo. As with other dances the Quick Steps on the toes and the slow steps on the heel.

The Quick Step uses a fast paced up and down swing motion. It's crucial to look light on your feet even if the movements are strong. Owed to the quickness of the dance, remaining in sync with your dance partner and endeavoring to keep similar tension in the legs is a must. More so than other dances your facial expressions are key to expressing the fun side of the dance, so have a great night Ballroom dancing Orlando, New York, London or Sydney.
